AI is already destroying us. It started with the AI algorithms used by social media and even sites like YouTube. These algorithms are designed to constantly feed you that which is most likely to maintain your interest. Nothing grabs interest better than anger, fear and confirmation bias. We have trapped humanity into a feedback loop of its most base impulses, and we already see the effects in the extreme polarization of society and politics. This is already threatening to erupt into some form of civil war, and we've only gotten started. AI is getting ever better at this and no one at any of these companies see any downside to making their sites ever more capable of feeding people still more inflammatory hatred and polarization.
