The main difference is that the tech added to those fields you enumerated had a solid ROI.
AI companies don't. The shovel sellers are burning money and are out of ideas (see the Sora 2 situation where people slammed the app, the whole cost was eaten by OpenAI and they can't monetize it), the companies who implement it don't see a ROI and the consumers already have AI fatigue from all the products trying to push it. The only use-case is ChatGPT and some very specific B2B flows (small and targeted), but that doesn't justify all the money that is flowing into data centers. I think we have hit a plateau with the current architectures and "more neurons mean better". The last couple of updates were just marginally better than the previous ones, and that is based on some very specific benchmark results that in some cases are controlled by the company that released the model.
Sure, there is value, but not in the consumer market.
