Software engineer here. AI with images has gotten really advanced, if youre curious its called object recognition I believe. You basically grab a bunch of images, show the AI how to recognize your target by drawing boxes around it (ie, that red light that you showed). From that, it can then detect red lights ~90 something% of the time.
Same thing with the box not being at the door.
