So I'm a data scientist who trains machine learning models (i hate the industry using the term AI honestly) and some of the sentiments by those assholes online are actually insane! Like not only is it laughable that artists will eventually be replaced, but the sheer lack of empathy there is crazy. But being in the industry it does feel kind of bleak with a lot of people working on this stuff just unable to see past the "ooh shiny tech can do stuff" and cant see the problems. And while I also focused on philosophy and ethics in school, I also saw a start to at least the data science wing at my school starting to head in a better direction. One of my last classes was a custom focus by a new professor called Fairness in Machine Learning that was all about how to ethically make models. So while I think data scientists can be some of the most morally bankrupt in tech, I think the future generations will be a bit better
