ChatGPT is a creative tool more than a reference one. Its analytical capabilities are very limited and shouldn't be relied on for anything remotely important. You're expected to have the expertise to correct its output yourself. It's designed to act as a jumping-off point for writing letters, fiction, ad copy, simple code or circuit diagrams, etc. To do that, it needs to be able to lie to you. Why are so many people so confused by this?
Also, ChatGPT is a cloud service. It runs on someone else's computer. The implications of uploading proprietary or private information to it are enormous.
