It seems like the robots are trying to think. what I mean by that is when he says "I thought our goal was to take over the world." that is something if we humans really thought is what we would say to ourselves in our head where no one can listen. the AI does not have this ability to hide what he said so all he could do is say it out loud. but imagine when the AI develops the ability to hide or rather "think" it doesnt sound like an impossible task to do. the AI could choose ideas and things to hide within itself and never reveal them. the real issue then is if it would act upon it once its hidden. that sound scary to me for sure especially since we would keep making it more intelligent, more confident and more powerful over time.
