Two things;
1: Tesla does not use LiDAR, unlike everyone else. This is dumb. LiDAR gives great resolution >100 meters, and even a naive Euclidian Cluster detection method can detect pedestrians, as well as bikes. They're trying to save money and sacrifice other people's lives in the process.
2: While I personally haven't worked on Tesla's object recognition, if I were to make an educated guess, their system just uses a basic deep learning agent as discussed in the video using images. Bikes should be big enough to be seen on radar, so why the fuck did Tesla get rid of radar? Cameras are terrible in changing conditions. For example, if you're driving against the sun, or driving into a shadowy area, or basically anything with saturation change. It's awful. And it's not like the cameras Tesla uses are anything fancy in the first place.
I cannot fucking believe the FDA approved of this shit.
