As a teacher, I have worked in multiple districts where I’m encouraged to use AI in my work to make things smoother. I’ve had multiple supervisors who have answered my questions about how to improve my practice by typing the question into ChatGPT and reading me the response, which makes me feel like putting in the effort to improve my teaching was a stupid question to ask. Can you imagine if your boss was like “let me Google that for you?” Why is it seen as less rude because it’s AI?
I don’t know how to handle students using AI for assignments, because some teachers openly encourage its use. I teach art and I’ve been told multiple times I should lean into teaching them generative AI art. But what are they learning? If you type in “fish” and Adobe makes you one, how is that different from simply Googling a picture of a fish and turning that in as your own?
