It's a mistake to presume that just because things aren't panning out as poorly as projected as rapidly as projected.. that these sorts of things will never be a problem.
The failure to achieve such Heights says far more about the projections themselves, the motivations of those that made them, and the reckless abandon with which a lot of companies insisted on falling for the hype train... all because they were capitalistic afraid of being left behind if they weren't one of the first to take advantage of the claimed gains.
I don't see a failure of AI itself here - I see a failure of upper management pushing on the usage of it in ways that it or the people using it are not ready for..mostly because their overzealous eagerness and ambition saw dollar signs before they took a close and well-thought out look at properly rolling out and integrating their usage of it.
