It’s a nice try at an argument but it’s not quite right. Pre-training data, yes, mostly contains low or mid quality code. But LLMs undergo further refinement after that (SFT, RLHF/alignment) and that’s what lifts them to above average programmers. We’re not sure yet how far this post-training paradigm can take us. Could be to superhuman coding. Best to stay open-minded so as to not get left behind!
