Tesla does not have a self driving car, every instance of a tesla hitting something head on is a driver failure. ADAS systems are there to "aid" the driver, that is the second A in ADAS. I do mobile diagnostics and ADAS calibration for a living, every single radar module that I program and calibrate did not stop the car from hitting something directly in front of it. Every manufacturer is using ADAS systems now and all of them are AMAZING driver aids, none of them specify that you do not have to be in control of your vehicle.
I travel from body shop to body shop to replace/program/calibrate all of these systems and a lot of times it is on vehicles with 10-30k miles on them, when I am done I verify that they are operating correctly by manufacturer specifications and I have never been instructed by their service information to ignore what is in front of me and see if it crashes. These systems are awesome but the average driver is absolutely incompetent and should have never been granted a license... Fully ADAS equipped 2021-2023 vehicles a hard to crash, especially Subaru's Eyesight system. This technology is amazing when used as intended to aid you with staying between the lines and keeping a steady gap with the vehicle in front of you.
These vehicles being in a front end collision is due to the driver staring at their cell phone while having all of these systems turned off because they dont like their car beeping at them when they are crossing the center line or riding the bumper of the car in front of them. A fair estimate is that half of the vehicles I calibrate I need to turn the systems back on because they were disabled by the owner at some point. None of these motorcycle fatalities are the fault of Tesla or any other manufacturer and the technologies they are or are not using, it is the fault of the driver that has zero respect for the 4500 lbs deadly object they are supposed to be in control of but instead want to make some stupid tiktak video of themselves while doing 75 mph and no clue of what is ahead of them.
Motorcyclist fatalities when hit by a car with radar or front vision is because they do not have the protection of a car surrounding them, these cars are slamming into each other all day every day but there is much less chance of fatality when it is two automobiles colliding. Every time I am doing a dynamic calibration while driving I will try to get behind a motorcycle if I see one because at first I really was curious if the systems would detect them and I have never had to panic stop due to ADAS failure if if was properly calibrated.
If your car goes to a body shop after an accident, please ask questions about how your ADAS systems will be calibrated/verified because there are a TON of shops that will just give it to the customer as long as there are no warning lights on the dash.
I love this channel but this is bad information based on poorly constructed studies.. I own two motorcycles and have been nearly hit multiple times just like everyone else that has a lot of miles on a bike, but people attacking Tesla need to be focusing on the Tesla drivers instead of the cars.
