I would go back into the distant past, when the planet was still cooling and the first handheld calculators were readily available to the public. The same argument was made. I don't know whether things completely fell apart as was speculated but I'm pretty sure they didn't. I think there is a middle ground between AI and no AI. That said, I don't think our current political and tech leadership is capable of finding that middle ground. They all just want to press the gas pedal to the floor.
