I am working on a project that has shown me that with a good LLM, if 95% of the time goes to discussing and arriving at mutual understanding and concensus about the intent and implementation, and generating code is 5%, I can crank out quite a lot of nice code much faster, and the AI has the advantage of being able to keep the whole project in it's head so to speak so finding where to do things is easy. Of course you test at every step, which is easy with interpreted languages. So yes replacing devs with AI is stupid as hell, totally nonsense. But a competent designer/developer using AI to brainstorm is shockingly helpful. That's my recent experience with gemini. The problem is if they asked me to pay for it I still wouldn't, I'd just run a local LLM on my laptop, but I understand there are a lot more constraints in the corporate space.
