Rogan yesterday said that it was fine for AI to look at existing art, intellectual property, and copyrighted materials to generate its own art because people make derivative works all the time. He ignores that the purpose of intellectual property law is to allow PEOPLE to profit from their own work without allowing copycats to exploit the work of others. AI does not need protection under intellectual property law because it is not a person or a member of society with protectible interests.
