This is why we need a government aid system, like universal base income. If we don't need to work anymore due to AI, automation or whatever, but still want to afford to buy stuff, its the only way to go forward. That said, those who want to get more than just having to trust and relly on your government what it gives you, one should still be able to find some options of making more money like odd jobs, turn a hobby into a profit or whatever. Either way, this topic is certainly not an easy one to tackle and a lot, if not all, governments will have to find a way to deal with this issues sooner rather than later, because technology is not stopping advancing any time soon, if ever (barring a massive disaster of either natural or human made veriety). But at the end of the day, if AI and automation take over current jobs, new jobs will be created because of it. After all, someone has to maintain those systems, unless we want automation to handle that too, but that point we are living in the Matrix and no one wants that. My concern with all of this is, sure people who are intelligent enough to learn these new things will get ahead, but what about that lowly guy who is for lack of a better word, dumb as a brick, how will he survive in this new economy? He's not going to be able to learn and pick up any of these new skills no matter how hard he tries, he's just too dumb, so he will likely go poor and starve somewhere on the street. This is where the UBI comes in, for those people that are frankly too stupid to survive otherwise. But UBI can be abused, especially by people who don't know how to manage their money, people who are drunk all the time or do other ''not so recreational activities''. At the end of the day, it still is and always will be up to the individual to make the most of the new situation
