AI is a perfectly fine *supplementary* tool for learning. Fortunately the advent of using it to write essays and take tests started becoming popular right after I graduated college, but I myself used an AI tool to summarize academic papers—not to use the summaries, but just so I could see whether a paper was relevant to my thesis for research projects. Made it more efficient for me to find sources without actually doing any of the learning for me. Meanwhile a STEM classmate of mine has been using ChatGPT for her classes, and justified it by saying that the class was "too hard."
AI is fine, but unfortunately it's a slippery slope. Once people start using it for menial tasks, they start using it in place of actual cognitive and critical thinking.
We need regulation on AI in schools YESTERDAY.
