Pattern recognition systems ("AI") have no consciousness about the data that they compare to generate (better: assemble) results - they purely work on basis of data comparison. It does not "understand" or "reflect on" the data. With a view to relatively useful answers the concept can be compared to "crowd intelligence". For many jobs in data analysis, conventional methods are way more (energy) efficient.
