Not everyone who uses art are NFT/Crypto bros, some are just people using it for either fun, because their poor and can't afford to pay thousands of dollars a year for comissions (I personally spent at least $444 and that came out of both blood money (blood donation) and life insurance of a dead family member to do so. I am not the person saying AI is new art, many of the people who know what it is just call it "slop" and still use it for recreational purposes. I.e, there are normal, sane and reasonable people who use AI for non-malicious reasons. I doubt the people who did that "will smith eating spaghetti" thing had malicious intent behind it for example they just wanted to see what it could do and found it funny. So its important to find the nuance in who you're enemies are, there are the actual people who are extremist against ai, extremists for ai (which you talk about) and the people who are like, centrists who just don't care about the warfare and want to just do their own thing. And these people tend to have no malicious intent behind it at all. This broad stroke profiling isn't exactly good. And tbh the ai bros are terrible at arguing for their point. its a better point to attack the ethics of art itself and how a lot of famous art we praise today was either plagiarized and stolen but people continue to preserve or promote their work. Shakespeare infamously stole form a bunch of people for his plays but we still praise him, for example. Tracing and other forms of art theft done by human hands still exist, sure their more "human" but theft is theft. What is the difference between when an AI does it and when a human does it? Many artist sound like so long as a human is behind it its ok, but if you really think about the unethical practices that go on in the art world itself that is seriously not the case. And even if ai gets regulated, guess what, they'll just go back to just using the old methods of theft. And nothing changes. This is already a issue on twitter with the whole concept of "Fixing" art or taking anime characters and just turning them black for some reason. Point being on this end, if you're gonna police art, at least police the other more "human" examples along with the AI ones. I don't want to see black skinned Sung Jin Woo. On ethics, if you extend that to its conclusion, a lot of stuff you use and wear daily are at least 50% chance a product of unethical practices. Slave labor, child slave labor, ect. And if you cut out every unethicically made product you have, you'd probably be shooting yourself in the foot depending on what you use daily and what you consume. Point being, crying out ethics doesn't help in the real world. It shouldn't be considered since everybody is at least somewhat complicit in unethical practices either in what they consume, what they by, or what they do. I myself acknowledge this and tbh ethics is not enough to really deter me from doing something because of this. The world is built on unethical and spilt blood. America very much is built on unethical slave labor and stolen land. We wanna be ethical give all that back to the Native Americans. They aren't doing that though. So ethics means little to me if it doesn't matter to everyone else. So long as its convenient for them and doesn't inconvenient them, they'll gladly do unethical practices for their own personal, not just the corps, but everyday people.
