I worked for a traditional centralized company for over 35 years. NONE of the consultants we used were of value and added to the success of the company. Not ONE of the projects that they were hired for was ever completed and executed. In fact they were a cost center used by senior management for reasons that were very rarely truly explained to the organization and ultimately used by senior management for 'reorganizational' purposes eg as an excuse to reduce costs and ultimately to reduce headcount and staff. In fact, many of the outside consultants used had little experience actually working in the business of the company. Most of the consultants had experience, skills and knowledge in the antithesis of the business of the company. Many were direct top graduates of elite MBA and PhD programs with little work experience (and knowledge) in the business of the company and of the company itself. I see no difference in the future business world you propose. AI is and will be used as a way for companies to reduce their costs and overhead. Consultants that you mention will only be brought in if it fits into the agenda of senior management of these companies. These companies will not splinter off into separate businesses....the boards of traditional companies will continue to acquire and grow....albeit with less human capital. Ps...most of the individual consultants used by the company were done for lower cost purposes. It was cheaper to hire a consultant than to hire a full time person to do their job....even though the consultant was paid a higher salary than a permanent employee. Thus, many of these individuals were ex-employees of the company hired back as consultants eg cheaper for the company in the long run since employee benefits were eliminated plus overhead costs. I do not see much difference in the world of AI....
