Like you I have... err... been around the block a few times lol. Software will change, how we program will change. We will probably be moving to formal means to describe a problem domain in detail such that AI could create the code.
You are right though. I have always said there are people that code because they are people that code and then there are those that see it as a "high paid" path and go into it. The later are the people that will be out the door when AI takes hold in our space
