AI 'artists' are delusional, full stop. Thinking any of the generative illustrations produced by their favorite tech company's schizophrenic photocopier are "art" is disturbing. It's as you said; all artists stand on the shoulders of giants. This is a form of expression that has been built upon by millions of souls across the history of our species.
