The problem with AI is that it doesn’t understand what it thinks. And that will probably always remain the case — AI will never become conscious.
When a human thinks, there is a self that understands the thoughts. This self will not magically appear just because AI’s processes become more complex. Self-awareness to some degree exists in living beings regardless of how intelligent they are.
