The dream of general AI and personal assistant robots seems like around about way of wishing for acceptable slavery. I can't imagine an AI growing at exponential rates is going to regard us kindly if our only desire for its existence is subservience to our every whim. It would really be the ultimate irony if our species got wiped out by Skynet, because we don't want to do our bed or turn on the coffee maker.
