Something that just puts me off about the flow of conversation in this video is how much independence is assigned to AI models. the talk about AI "developing preferences" or "learning to understand" is so one-sided, as if it's already a type of sentience that gets to pick. but if that's true, how does the way human meddling can change the model's output into something unrecognizable to the previous version make sense? chatgpt 4 vs 5, the way grok was obviously meddled with after musk said they were going to meddle with it and started providing a completely different output, the fixation grok had on south african reverse racism that clearly came from the backend, not from the model "naturally" getting stuck on a topic like humans sometimes do. I simply cannot square these occurences with the idea that AI models actually have any sort of understanding, appreciation, or preference for anything
