I am an indie game dev and look forward to AI evolution with hope that guys like me can have more options to choose when we can't pay for arts for us. But in this situation, I agreed with you at 100%. This AI models should be trained exceptionally on published and free licensed arts.
And I'm confident that no AI can replace real artists because it's simply a machine, it doesn't know what it draws and, tbh, not draw at all, just combining. So it can be used for some people who try to choose from what free to use, and for inspiration, not less, not more. By the same reason, I'm pretty calm about the fate of programmers, no AI never can replace them.
And, yeah, I believe we can't ignore this situation, and we can't stay aside of this. Because it's moraleless and basically illegal. We should get more attention to this issue and force AI owners to play by rules, moral rules and legal rules.
