to comment on the comment about "what's wrong with letting ai do the work for humans?": i agree with this to an extent but people who do usually say this are ones that will use it for everything it seems. but when used more properly, it can help save time but not replace the human factor. for example, using it as a tool to research when programming. so many times i've tried finding a solution to a problem when programming and it's taken literal hours. sometimes it's because it involves a concept i don't understand, or even ones i haven't heard of and wouldn't know how to even look up. ai can be a decent starting point because it can point you in a good direction. it's saved hours of time this way. time that i instead used to learn those concepts more efficiently or am able to move onto the next thing i want to program. to be clear, i'm not saying it would be writing me code and i use that code. if anything, it would give me some code that i can then break down easier and dissect. now i have a starting point which would have likely taken me much much longer to get to just trying to google something.
another example is i'm not a writer. so at work when i need to word an email in a particular way but i can't think of the words because i'm really really slow when it comes to that, i get a rough draft, and ask ai for some ideas. instead of me sitting in front of my computer for way too long getting frustrated that i was supposed to send that email out like 30 minutes ago and have a bunch more things to do, ai can help speed up the process. i don't let it write my emails for me, i use it as a tool to get the words i was failing to look for.
i know the general comeback to this is "well just learn to do better", but the original comment was about spending less time. both of these scenarios have helped me save time without losing out on something else. so in direct reply to you asking "time to do other things... other things like what exactly?". for me, this is to continue to program and not get hung up on one issue for hours and be able to get to things i need to do at work faster.
ai diehards likely try to use ai for as much as they can, but i do agree that the human element is very important. so i'd never have it actually write the code for me, or write emails. i also don't like ai replacing jobs or artists. i don't consider ai art as real art. but it isn't just simply black and white, there's a middle ground for where it's useful.
that being said, i appreciate that you actually explained your thoughts and reasons. most arguments around this that i see is just people saying "no you're wrong and i'm right". i just wanted to explain this what i feel like is a misconception because i think there's a huge difference between using it as a tool like i try to do, and use it to actually replace things.
