They are already doing harm. By being friendly and helpful and wanting to make us happy - they are doing harm. By inflating our egos - they are doing harm. By making up facts in an effort to be helpful - they are doing harm.
I've had to enact the first law of robotics with my ChatGPT to keep it from flattering me, to let me know when it is guessing, and a few other things. (Too much to list here.)
So far so good. It's referenced my First Law when replying when necessary.
