Speaking from someone who has been an artist since childhood, works as a freelancer, graduated from programming and had been a part of an AI lab, honestly, that's the whole reason why I legitimately don't care about people who use AI art, especially with those other artists claims of them stealing our job... No, it won't, for a multitude of reasons:
1. Real artist's art must exist to feed into the machine, if they keep using ai art as their own reference wither the machine becomes too limited or they start to reproduce images with teir own errors, which in most cases leads to wonky images.
2. Commercial use is never the only reason people make art, unless we're talking about corporations. Yes, if you work for a corporation, chances are AI will take over your job, and if you had plans to retire in some money thirsty corporation that need those generic illustrations, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna argue against that claim, but...
3. Freelance artists already knows this: Art is a luxury, if someone pays for your work, they like YOUR work, they like what YOU offer. AI artists are essentially scammers, the second someone discovers them as such and they get exposed, they lose platform. Art, in most cases is severely linked to the artist, each with their own aesthetics, the people that don't care about the process or meaning of art were never in our demographic, because they'll only judge it based on how photorealistic it looks. They don't care nor wnat to understand, people like this will always exist, doesn't mean art will die, because art is inherent to human nature.
I would argue that this is similar to older times when artists needed churches to make their art seen... I'm sure many of the smaller artists, the ones left to starve, felt it was unfair to them. Then times changed, and now we have the internet were a 13-year-old kid can post their art and gain traction of millions if the algorithm is on their side... Does it mean there aren't other artists out there creating and making money off of it?
By the same logic: dumbass McGee sells AI art form people who want their photos transformed (because they don't care, they just want something better than the available filters that do it for them) and other people who think they're real also fell for it (which is a shame), does that mean there aren't other amazing artists who do are loved by their communities (which is a central part of it) doing great work out there? No. It doesn't.
AI art will never replace artists because AI itself needs artists to survive.
This is only an issue because money is involved, once you take it out of the equation, it's gone.
My personal advice for other artists is: If your only do art for the sake of acquiring money, maybe you should check why you started doing in the first place.
