Why university degrees were good is that having one meant that you were a problem solver, someone who could get in a fix things due to their understanding. Now as the number of graduates increased that meant that many graduates didn’t have any deep understanding of what they were doing. They used standard solutions to fix standard problems. The problem is that AI and computers in general can do that very well. In some of my work I create tables. I do that by understanding how to make the table I want using the functions in the software. AI could do that and probably will. Working in an IT environment there will be some programmers who just do that sort of job. The people who will still have jobs are the ones who are thinking about the whole system, the databases, the data structures, programs etc and how they all link together to work reliably and efficiently.
