No it is not conscious and it will not ever be. If you want to create an intelligent being, have children! It is ridiculous on its face to assume that more and more complex algorithms will ever be conscious. More and more complex programs are just more complex programs. First, nobody even has a clue about what consciousness is, where it comes from and how it works. It seems to only be associated with living beings. So how in hell will a bunch of geeky programmers ever create something that nobody has a clue about out of algorithms in dead machines? There is no magic inside of AI. The programs are made to imitate human language so their interface to us looks like communication but it is just programmed language prediction. The only intelligence in AI is the intelligence of the programmers who make it. The whole AI sham is our generations Agency Detection Bias. Past generations thought that thunder and lightening were god expressing anger. Now, people think that a language prediction model that sounds plausible is somehow a super intelligence in a box. There are going to be some very embarrassed scientists and intellectuals when the sham in all of this is finally understood. Computers can do amazing things when it comes to processing data. But they are only made possible by the human intelligence that makes them in the first place. It seems that some programs are called AI because its trendy even when its just a typical number crunching program.
