If we become educated about social policies that can help people live healthy, prosperous lives, and advocate for their implementation in communities, then this can be a fairly constructive trajectory. People not having to work for a living, and having a livable wage, moving towards post-labor economics, frees up people to do things they enjoy and love, like to create, to spend more time with friends and family, to explore, to teach and learn. I can already hear some of you worry that creatives and teachers are going to go out of a job too. So what's the point. To this I say: AI is a tool for the artists and education system. It is up to us how to use it. We can develop effective guidelines for it, and learn how to work with it, or we can grow super fearful of it and resist it, hate it, struggle against it and bemoan about the end of the world. Just because someone does things faster than you, does not mean you are useless. This idea of more, faster, harder, stronger being all that matters ignores the humanity that we are not machines. Additionally, we as a society have become so addicted to work, and so codependent on it for survival, beyond any measure in human history, that I think it is time we wake up and realize our lives still add value to the world without our work. We are not our jobs. We do jobs, we are not jobs. And frankly most jobs suck, are soul crushing, are micromanaged and inefficient. They are no longer needed. If we can open source AI and its research, pass policies for Universal Basic Income, relieving student debt, returning power to communities, developing new methods of currency transfer between people directly, rather than having to rely on banks and loan debts people cannot repay, then we can support people through this shift.
