AI being used by companies to replace artists or by anyone to make images that are directly copied from something is indeed bad.
However, AI is a wonderful tool for personal use or for things that don’t particularly matter. For example, my pfp is AI generated. I don’t care enough about it to pay anything, but AI let me add a little bit of my own touch to it. Before I used this I just used a picture I found off the internet. Me using AI to make my pfp doesn’t harm anyone, it simply just lets me be a little happier about something. I don’t consider myself an artist for making it; the process was me just uploading my old pfp, giving about 30 words, and rerunning the AI like 7 times. However, some people will use AI at a much higher level. This is a challenging thing to do, and they deserve credit. Art is not, and has never been, about how much work you put into something.
I can see how artists might feel attacked by this technology. I agree that there needs to be regulations in place, especially on companies. However, this genie can not be put back in the bottle; and fighting against the progression of a technology that could be of immeasurable benefit to the human race is wrong.
