In a totally atheistic worldview, intelligence itself causes consciousness. The idea is that as soon as you get smart enough, you just kinda click into being self aware.
But I’m a Christian, as you are John, and I often wonder: can ANYTHING become conscious other than humans? Because consciousness is basically what we have understood to be the difference between living and not living for most of humanity, would AI gaining consciousness count as creation of life, and therefore be impossible for us to do?
