It would be totally fine if the artist gave permission for ai to train on their art. However most of the art the ai is stealing is copyrighted work. The ai doesnt do anything original, ai art is just fragments of peoples art stitched together convincingly to look like one piece. Even in the (human) art community artists that trace other artists work are called out for it and sometimes have to pay legal fines for it even if the result is not exactly the same artwork as the stolen piece
