Well spoken guy. And I respect him, but he's wrong. As a computer scientist myself I've read the transcript. It's not sentient. In fact we have a long long way to go until we build something that is sentient. We aren't even close. There's a big difference between something that LOOKS intelligent and something that IS intelligent. And when I say big I mean "The rocket ship hasn't even left the launch pad" big. That's how much we have left to go. For example, does it ever engage with you first? Does it ever ask questions? Does it ever take things like academic research and write a new paper discovering something genuinely brand new? It can only do this by using the information it has gathered and thinking about it to create new ideas. Does it wonder about what it is and how it works? Intelligence is curious. Intelligence thinks. Intelligence is not a witty response to a question. While impressive that is not sentience and this engineer suggested sentience to the AI so the AI would start talking about it. Maybe intentionally, maybe unintentionally. But he has a lot of confirmation bias that much is clear.
