Alongside basic maths and grammar, everyone needs a grounding in philosophy, logic and critical thinking for now. For the future, I don't think even that armoury well be enough. AI does need to be controlled by some means or humans will become so confused and divided against ourselves that we will end up destroying ourselves - a modern day Tower of Babel.
