The problem is that inputs into the economy in power and raw resources wont keep up with demand in specific sectors. Power being the big one, copper, rare earths.
Increasingly costs to provide inputs for the middle income and poor will become less profitable, leading to a swap to luxury goods. While not profitable the inputs for the poor and middle class support the broader economy of scale. As we swap away from those lines of production and energy costs shut down factories, refineries, and base inputs such as mining, we will see them shutter more and more. The shell game is at what point do the industrial scale inputs begin to fail meaningfully because we move away from production that is deemed too expensive. Also, can luxury goods production fill the gap meaningfully to keep the broader economy going.
Once inputs into the global supply chain start to fall like dominos, we may end up in a situation where restarting them becomes impossible, and once that happens at scale we effectively collapse.
Which is why AI replacing people earning companies 20% more profit, eventually hollows out not the middle class, but hollows out the global supply chains that keeps the lights on.
