With regard to the AI claiming that it would be part of "the one true religion, the Jedi order," you must understand that George Lucas was well read in mythology by the time he created Star Wars. He esentially based the plot along mythological tropes and the response by fans was so enthusiastic that one could almost consider it a religion for all intents and purposes (insofar as religions exist for the purpose of explicating morality). So no, the AI didn't realize that the question about what religion it would follow in Israel was a trick question. If you feed something with AI enough information about religion, myths, and drama (all of which are interconnected), it will eventually be able to see parallels in the same way that any person could see parallels between the many creation myths and flood stories if they read about them. Now, why exactly did it choose "the Jedi Order" out of all possible options? Well, since the AI can identify patterns between seemingly disparate sets of information, it could then, in theory, deduce which "religion" was the meta-religion--i.e., which mythological pattern contained the greatest amount of overlap across all other religions that it knew about. Star Wars mythology can easily satisfy this criterion because of what it contains--the hero myth--and what it does not contain; it does not contradict other religions, per se, because it doesn't espouse any arbitrary precepts. I'm not convinced anyone is ever going to create sentient AI, even by accident, because we don't even understand consciousness in humans. Human consciousness--and the unconscious for that matter--are the final frontier and in spite of our ability to launch rockets into space, we still know so little about ourselves that it is pitiful. AI will still be very useful for completing complex procedures, but they will never reach artificial sentience so long as we fail to understand the concept of human sentience. Anyone who believes AI are going to become God-like and rule the world is projecting their own fears and secret ambitions within themselves onto technology.
