There are some parts of your brain much smarter than the rest of the brain. They never try to get rid of those more primitive parts. Your leg is much stronger than your arm, but your legs are not trying to kick your arms. AI should be made in a way that its part of us and not independently functional. Its a very obvious solution, not easy, but obvious. We will evolve to become a much smarter life form, whether we would still be human is just a philosophical question.
