Must I remind everyone that an alternative for the word 'artificial' is 'fake'.
Today's computer tools called "AI" are NOT intelligent. They are just provide very fast searches of massive databases from which they distill a 'consensus' position. There is no conscious thinking involved. Penrose is correct that without consciousness there can be no intelligence. Without consciousness there can be no creative 'thinking'. An AI cannot sit and ponder the universe to create some new and original concept. It has no imagination. It can produce but it cannot create.
So AI is a useful tool for research. Finding stuff that already exists. But don't expect original 'thought' as it does not 'think'. Today's fascination with AI is just another tech 'bubble' promoted by those wanting vast sums of money to build a super Google. It is a classic case of American consumer marketing, sucking in the public into believing it's the next best thing to sliced bread, and that only exists because Americans cannot be trusted with sharp knives.
Think of AI as just a bigger MBA. Not much use except as someone (something) to blame when things go wrong, as they will.
