All fear comes out our level of understanding. We fear that which we do not understand. AI, being a fairly new idea, of course, produces this fear inside of us. As we sit right now, is this fear misplaced? I believe, yes. Let's approach this with a realistic probability. Right now, your neighbor or the person standing beside you poses more threat to you than any AI programs or beings. In this knowing, any fear that is produced from this idea is that some psychotic individuals are programming these machines. It is possible, but not probable. We are all capable of great evil, but most of us are held back by the restraints of our morals and values. So, relax your fears, as the probability of pure evil programmers is very low. Also, realize that in reality, the programs instilled into these machines give to them the extent of their capabilities. The underlying fear that we have is that we recognize our own capabilities of committing evil acts, but have faith people, the people creating these machines have the same fears and do not want to have the responsibility of creating something that will cause any destructive tendencies. Your fear is produced by your lack of faith, in not just yourself, but your neighbor. Have some faith in the deep-rooted wanting for the good of others and not the possibility of evil. Understand the risks and the probability of all possibilities. This will allow you to place yourself at ease when it comes to this issue.
