Its weird that people look so hard for reassurance that elements of human experience will stay relevant beyond AI
I get that inclination and desire. To say our mortality or this that and the other thing makes us unique, or that we have this special property that AI will never be able to replicate. But that dystinction isnt relevant to many of our places in the economy
Most tasks are technical. If there are 2 categories of work, technical and creative. 95 percent are technical, i have phd friends i myself am an electrical engineer doing r and d
I think its so important to understand what we mean when we say "creative" because the definition shifts alot. Research and r and d are sometimes called "creative problem solving" does that mean we all got nothing to worry about because the safety word creative is in there?
No thats a different type of creative. AI already is insane at creative problem solving, since gpt arrived its gone from being able to assist as a repo consolidator to dig through documentation for me rather than comb throughing the repo myself
To actively doing 90 percent of my job. I work in fpga based fiberoptic data processing for fluid dynamic monitoring systems
I work somewhere in the pipeline for light based liquid monitoring trchnology basically. Its a very standard example of a job r and d engineers do. Its not special in any way, its not trivial, but there are millions of roles like this that keep employed across a myriad of technical fields
Engineers ans scientists so often have massive egos and love sniffing their rears. They cosplay as doing some ground breaking next einstein level work and bank on their job title being complex sounding to impress people
When in reality, most, and ill qualify it with most not all. Of us arent particularly any smarter than the average. I love math and calculus, i love the controls field and convolutions and laplace transforms and differential equations and have a pretty good understanding of that branch of mathematics
Because i spent alot of time thinking through it. Not because theres anything special about me. AI considers that stuff trivial
Lets be honest with ourselves and how "special" we really are. Nearly all of us saying anything close to "im not replaceable by AI" are out to lunch, and i think they know it. Even if they wont admit it
Get a senior position now while you can, and maybe you can ride it out longer than otherz
