I don't think it's gonna happen exactly like this, but I secretly have hopes up that EU internet regulations actually might be worth something for once in case of AI. Looking back at the history of the EUs attempts of regulating internet spaces, especially Germany (where I live), it was always seen as a bit "poisoning" to the internet, because in the effort of allegedly protecting minors and individual rights (which is indeed a good cause) they ruined the usage of a good amount of internet spaces. For example: Steam has a region-lock in Germany if the publishing game company isn't making an effort for selling the game on the german market and putting an official german age rating on the game (FSK for movies, USK for games; going through that process costs money and takes time, which is what drives publishers away from doing it). While the biggest game market that is affected are adult-games (which in all honesty aren't that big of a loss to many people), other games, especially indie games, are also affected a lot. Like half my Steam wishlist just vanished when this regulation actually went out. While I understand the reasoning behind why this happened (again, enforcing age restriction and protecting individual rights is a good thing), it also made your life on the internet a lot more complicated. Now you gotta verify your age not just by a button, in many cases you actually have to input your IRL bank data or your ID to verify your age (a usable bank account proves you're an adult since online banking is an adult-thing). You're effectively trusting that the social media platform (or any other platform) you're signing into that they won't give it away or misuse your personal information. Internet anonymity is an illusion at this point. That was a long rant for a short TL;DR What I wanted to say initially is: If EU laws went the extra mile on the front of individual rights and protection of minors, I see a legitimate chance of them heavily regulating AI usage and publishing as well. In what form exactly I cannot tell, but I hope it hits where it hurts AI bros the most. Afterall, who's to tell if an AI might produce explicit imagery when a toddler asks for it?
