This is nonsence. The roots of this go back to 9/11 terrorism and defence. The government's use such behaviour to spot illegal activities and terrorism. Governments have invested huge amounts of money to protect citisens from danger. What you see are spin off's from such work. It is true that such data can be used by companies to target sales and has been used by politicians and their parties for planning purposes, BREXIT being an example. Political party's have been manually for years by knocking on door's, keeping such information in party database's, ticking off who has voted at the polling stations and sending out cars to collect their supporters. The fact that this can now be more easily achieved using computers is progress. Companies like 'Cambridge Analytica' have simply been using data in a smarter way. People are given loyalty cards and websites use cookies. People who object to this new world should be mindful of what they put on line and act in a more responsible way. What you publish online is your responsibility, not Facebook, etc., and is potentially available to everyone. Calling it 'Surveillance Capitalism' is nonsence and misleading.
