As Dungeons and Dragons DM who uses AI art to create tokens of my original characters that I use in my campaigns, I must admit that I genuinely laughed at that comment that said "What's wrong with letting ai do the work for humans? They then don't need to spend hours of their life practicing, and can do other things." Because that's not how this works. lol That's not how *any* of this works. I imagine I am probably seen as 'the enemy' by the overwhelming majority of this community, as I... I won't say "love' making AI art, as I don't. I see it as a means to an end, a way to create something for my own use that I could never, *ever* make myself, because I just... suck at art. I'm confident in my ability to write, narratively speaking, but actual artwork? That is something I just... _could not grasp_ and believe me, I tried, I _really_ did. I just have no talent for it. However what this effort *did* do, is give me a real appreciation for artists that I've had since I was just a kid some some almost thirty plus ago now. Because even now to this day, especially in the era of AI art, I encounter works of art frequently by people where I just think: "Wow... somebody actually _made_ this. I could, ever in a million years make anything like this." Because as someone with autism who is also a perfectionist, I have come to learn that AI art is the bane of my existence. Because the majority AI art bots? They are stupid. _Infuriating_ stupid, even. To the point where I feel that I have to _trick them_ with clever wording and phrasing in order for them to either *not* do something... or to *actually* do something. Mind you, I'm talking precise details used in conjunction. Because I have found that this... frustrating stupidity is more or less all AI bots. Because I have tried free ones, subscriptions based and 'cost per generation' ones. (which I think are one of the most disgusting scams ever made, by the way.) Anyway, I will spend *hours* to make a token that is 'acceptable' in my eyes, and by that I mean "what I am looking for." Because, as I said, I am a perfectionist... and it hurts. Because it takes a very, very long time generating image, after imagine, after imagine. Where I eventually find a 'good base' and then use my 'amazing paint skills' to edit in or out details of an imagine, and then use that and repeat the process.... over, and over and over. Because on average, I spend about 4 to 8 hours making a token, just a _single_ token for a character in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that means nothing to anyone other than myself and my players. In fact, the tokens I am 'the most proud of' only took about 2 or 3 hours... or at least that is what it _felt_ like anyway, because autism! It does that. In reality, however? I spent over twelve hours on them. Was it worth it? Probably not lol. But I am as passionate about writing my original characters as any artist is about drawing theirs, so I want a visual depiction of them to be what I imagine them to be; and often do not compromise on that. Which can take time.... a lot of time. Though even with all this time spent and effort in editing for better results in prompts, I still think it is nothing compared to those who actually make *real* art. Because lets be honest, I am just clicking something over and over, while making edits to the image and tweaks to the prompt here and there. I'm not actually *creating* anything... at least not in my opinion, anyway. Even with all of this time and effort I spend making these things through AI art, I still believe that this is *_easy_* compared to doing 'the real thing.' Because I cannot *_do_* 'the real thing', no matter how much time and effort I throw at practicing it. Which is why I do not have the same appreciate for AI art as I do that created by a person. If I see something cool and learn it was made by AI, I think. "Oh, okay, so they didn't actually make it then." Because while creating AI art *can* be a lot of work and take a lot of time, it will _never_ compare to the work done by a human, as all AI art is... is merely an imitation and nothing more; and will never *_be_* anything more than an imitation. Which, shockingly, actually angers some people to hear, but that is just the way it is... in my opinion, anyway.
