The one thing not mentioned in the episode is the one thing that could save mankind... And that's the fact that we have no way to maintain the power grid without hardworking self sacrificing people who do the hard and incredibly dangerous work of replacing and maintaining the lines and systems that keep the power running.
We have yet to create automated tools to replace lines or Transformers or any of the components that keep our power grid function, that's why in a natural disaster it takes so long to get power back to the areas affected... So if AI was aware of this it would know it would need us for it's own survival
