AI will wipe out a lot of jobs, but we also don’t have stables for horses every few blocks in cities anymore, either. I guess we’re going to find out that the lowest utility jobs that can be automated, will continue to be… just like everything else in history for the last 150 years. Almost like… people have had plenty of time to get ready for it, look for careers where what they can think and do need to matter more than just showing up, and where return on investment is worth hiring somebody capable. I wonder what would have happened if the Politicians had built up a national wealth fund instead of almost $40tn in debt over the last 50 years. Maybe we’d have the resources to address the problem more gracefully than blaming political opponents for not letting yet more get spent into debt. And of course, perhaps everyone should remember that debt is a promise to pay later… so having that debt mortgaged future labor that hasn’t happened yet. Now there’s a concern that it largely won’t at the individual level. Means all the weight of that debt is going to be concentrated on businesses and government. Congratulations- the people trying to put you into debt to create a socialist utopia broke the system by assuming somebody else’s money is always going to take care of it later. And now they’re crying about it, even though that was a completely predictable outcome. Spare us the “other side are my homework” argument. This was bad strategy mismanaged from the jump. Had it not, then everything the Senator says he wants would already be happening. It was incompetence and irresponsibility that got us here, and is once again going to had power to the debt owners instead of the common people.
