The argument that AI makes it so you don’t have to practice and can have time for other things is just… baffling. I don’t make art for the end product, I make art because I enjoy the process. I revere the feeling of a brush in my hand, streaking ink across the rough surfaced paper. I know that bringing my characters to life in my webcomic will be a life-long endeavor, and I welcome the challenge to tell my story with the little time I have on this weird planet. Art is not a task that needs to be completed, art is an act of creation and a form of self expression. In that sense, cooking is art. Dancing is art. Public speaking is art. Woodworking is art. Whatever the form is, if you are expressing yourself, I’d say it’s art! It’s something only you can make, only you can create, because no one else can be you. No one else is in your head. Ai is NOT art. It’s a grotesque amalgamation of other people’s self expression that were stolen for the exclusive purpose of producing an end product and nothing else. Anyone can make it. And that, I think, is the reason it feels so soulless.
