Automated driverless cars are inevitable and should be embraced if deemed safe for the public. This would eliminate jobs of course, but it could also mean safer streets. It would eliminate much of the human error and carelessness on our roads, humans are becoming more distracted than ever. In the U.S. there are over 40,000 deaths per year related to driving accidents, in the medium to long term, automated driving could reduce this number by 60 - 90%. There are ideas floating around that your personal car could make you money while you sleep, providing driverless 'Uber' type services to other people and coming home before you wake up. Yes the companies investing billions into this tech will ultimately make billions more in profits, but does that mean it's all evil and doesn't benefit the human race in general? Embrace human technological evolution, humans augmented with AI will replace humans without, but I do agree guardrails need to be put into place and careful planning needs to happen to transition slowly so our society does not run into a sudden catastrophe of high unemployment and homelessness.
