I've always said the search for AI is the search for I
We don't know how to quantify exactly what intelligence is. We have no real definition. How do we know that we aren't some elaborate computer like brain that has convinced itself that it is conscious. We use an electro chemical system to trigger responses that control our output. Our mind's eye is akin to computer code running a difference engine to work out the most beneficial outcome of our controllable actions. At what level do we call it life? Emotions can be controlled with drugs. An AI program can be programmed to have emotions and it won't know any different. Our brains have been preprogramed since before we were born. We have no agency over what drives us and we cannot exactly define "feelings". It's all subjective based on the current state of our nervous system, which can be externally manipulated.
